Mischief Mondays: Bite Macarons
Mischief Mondays are personal posts of me going around town, experiencing, and trying different things. I got the idea from Harry Potter. It's just good fun. Anyways, Mischief Mondays is not a weekly series of posts. It will probably be something I do every once in awhile when the mood strikes my fancy. Read on... My sister and I are a pair of macaron-crazed fantastics. If you're unfamiliar, the macaron is a type of french pastry that is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam sandwiched between two biscuits. My love for them developed a year ago when I visited the parisian bakery shop LADUREE. There is no substitute for the goodness that is Laduree, but when I saw that Bite Macarons was opening in Houston, I knew I had to come try it out. As I've discovered over the the past year, macaron recipes can vary from shop to shop depending on the pastry chef. The ones at Bite are delicious, but they lean more towards the softer/chewy side rather than crispy when it comes to the biscuit. My ideal macarons are usually the ones that hover between soft on the inside and slightly flakey/crispy on the outside. The best ones are the kind that you almost have to worry about breaking if you're not handling it delicately, but that's just personal preference. I would recommend going to Bite for a try if you're ever near the Westheimer/Buffalo Speedway area of Houston. It's worth the stop, and I will be going back again. One of my favorite parts of this store is the decor. It's clean, stream-lined, and very modern. I also love the logo and branding. Whoever designed it did a great job.
Me. Nom nom-ing away at my macarons.
If you're having multiple flavors of macarons, you HAVE to have it with tea. It will clear your palette so the different macarons won't blend together in taste. My favorite is Earl Grey with macarons.
My sister being goofy. She's pretty much hilarious, and her presence made the whole experience all the better.
Check out this video about the creation of Bite Macarons. It was this video that made me want to visit the shop.
