She is a native Brooklynite, who now lives in Houston, and runs a fashion and beauty blog called Morning Cup of Style. I first met Dee when we worked together on a KHOU Channel 11 feature piece, and I was instantly attracted to her style and personality. I remember commenting on her awesome outfit at least three times in the course of our first meeting. Photographing her was such a privilege and so much fun. Hi Dee, tell us a little bit about yourself, and how did Morning Cup of Style started?Morning Cup of Style is a blog site that I created as a platform to discuss my personal journey through style and beauty. I’ve always been a lover of clothes, regardless of the price tag. Ever since I picked up my mom’s makeup brush for the first time, there was something that instantly attracted me to style and beauty. My blog site allows me to share my journey with the world.What are the types of fashion we’re going to be seeing on your blog?By heart, I’m a bargainista. Typically, I’ll share pictures of great finds at a bottom dollar price. I’m really into quality items for a lesser price. In addition to writing about fashion, I post fashion event recaps and interviews with some pretty amazing people in the industry.How would you say Morning Cup of Style is different from the other style blogs out there?The writing on my site makes Morning Cup of Style. Writing is an art. I get it. I’m a journalist by heart. I use my talent, in addition to my personal experiences, to make my blog relatable. There’s never a dull moment while sitting at my laptop. Ever.
What inspires you creatively?I’m inspired by all sorts of things. A piece of art, colors, people, places, shapes, music—you name it!What are some projects you’re working on right now or will be working on in the future?Currently, I’m hosting a giveaway with H&M. I recently entered a writing contest with Elle Magazine. I’m also working on an event recap/interview with the president of Henri Bendel, Chris Fiore. Morning Cup of Style has provided some major opportunities and it has also allowed me to meet some wonderful people.If you could only shop at three stores for the rest of your life, which would it be?Buffalo Exchange, ASOS, and Christian Dior. Each store hits a different price point.
What are some gold-mine thrift stores in Houston that we should know about?The DAV is a good thrift store. It’s located on Griggs and Old Spanish Trail near 3rd Ward. That’s my go-to store for really cute pants and vintage purses. The Cottage Thrift Shop is my favorite. It’s near Westheimer and Montrose. It’s a great place for designer items. I recently snagged a Yves Saint Laurent blazer for $37. Can you believe it?If I told you that I will give you $10,000 to spend on any outfit, but you can only choose one, what would be your pick? I’d purchase a fitted Givenchy peplum dress with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti heels. To top it off, I’d coat my lips with MAC Ruby Woo lipstick and a red vintage Chanel lambskin purse. Bold lips are everything! I swear my alter ego is in full swing when I wear my red lipstick. You only get a single chance to make a first impression. This will definitely do the trick.Give us one summer style tip that should be an essential for this hot season.Every girl should make a point to purchase a loose fitted tank. One in every color. It’s perfect with jeans, a blazer, a pencil skirt, and leggings. You can pair with just about anything and wear it year around. Have a little fun and wear a chunky necklace with it. It’s super important to have a simple, versatile piece in your closet.
